He thought about my words for a moment. I waited until he'd settled on his ego rather than his need for attention. Of course, nobody else could take care of something so important, nobody else could make sure his master plan to torture me went without a hitch.

"I see your point. Hmmm, this is a pickle." I shuffle uncomfortably in my seat.

"I was thinking about Jack Wright." Before he could interject, I carried on; "he was there for me when Leo was missing. Offering support when I had none, he was the one who broke the news about Leo being shot to me. He was the one who held me as I collapsed. He's the closest thing to a parent I have in the world." The words felt true to me as I blurted them out. Jack had been there to look out for me when nobody else could. He'd protected me when I couldn't protect myself.
